Bereavement Service

Bereavement Service
Most people will experience bereavement at some time in their life.
Everyone reacts to loss in their own way. Grief can be very painful and may give rise to feelings and thoughts that you don’t expect. The death of someone close can sometimes seem like the most painful thing that has ever happened to you. It can feel bewildering and perhaps frightening. Grief is a natural response to loss. There is no right or wrong way to grieve.
Most people will experience similar feelings of shock, disbelief, perhaps numbness, through to periods of utter confusion, pain and questioning.
Mind in Tower Hamlets and Newham offer bereavement support services in both Tower Hamlets and Newham. If you would like to refer to these services please click on links below.
You may find this Information and Guidance Booklet useful as it has some information on how to cope with your loss, giving you information and advice on the practical issues you have to face as well as outline the support options for you.
A group of FCA Graduates have partnered with Mind in Tower Hamlets and Newham to produce a booklet that helps guide members of their community through the potentially traumatic process of planning a funeral. Their ambition is remove some of the stigma around planning and paying for funerals by talking sensitively, but also openly and honestly about the process and associated costs, and how to plan a loving and dignified funeral with any budget. To relieve some of the distress caused by bereavement the booklet contains information about the emotional and financial support offered by organisations in the local area, the government, and organisations that can help those wishing to celebrate their loved ones life in a way reflective of their religious beliefs and traditions.
Support And Financial Guidance In Bereavement 2020
Important Update – Tower Hamlets Bereavement Service 28/03/2025
The Tower Hamlets Bereavement Counselling Service has been provided by Mind in Tower Hamlets, Newham and Redbridge. Unfortunately, the funding for this service will not be renewed for the next financial year, and therefore the service will be closing.
We are aware that decisions such as this can have a significant impact on clients and their families, and can also cause uncertainty amongst clinicians and practitioners. We wanted to assure you that this decision has not been taken lightly, and both Tower Hamlets Talking Therapies and MindTHNR are committed to minimising disruption for clients, ensuring a safe and ethical ending for people receiving support.
For clients who are currently receiving Bereavement Counselling support, they will be able to continue accessing support until the end of their current sessions.
For clients who are currently on the waiting list to receive Bereavement Counselling support and were referred prior to 24th March, we are hopeful that they will all be allocated to a suitable counsellor, and will be able to receive the appropriate amount of sessions. If for any reason this is not possible in individual cases, the team at MindTHNR will contact clients and referrers directly.
For clients who are in need of Bereavement Counselling support, but have not yet been referred, please consider alternative signposting and referral options. You may wish to consider the City and East London Bereavement Service
