Our advocates work directly with young people at the Coborn Centre for Adolescent Mental Health – an in-patient service for 12- to 18-year-olds with complex and severe mental health difficulties.
When young people are in hospital, they often need support to understand their rights and their options and make their voices heard. We offer one-to-one support, in private. The service is free, confidential and independent.
Young people can use the service while they’re in hospital. We can be with them for support during ward rounds and be on their side in meetings such as medication reviews and appeals against their section.
Our advocates provide practical support with letter-writing, phone calls and getting access to health information. They also ensure that vulnerable young people have somewhere to turn if they are upset about how they’re being treated and feel their needs are not being heard.
