We recognise the need to act in an environmentally conscious and sustainable way, as, through our activities, we have an impact on the environment and contribute to climate change. We therefore commit ourselves to becoming an Environmentally Responsible Charity. To read more see our policy: PS1G Environmental And Sustainability Policy

But here are our commitment areas and some activities we’re doing.

Materials, Resources and Managing Waste

  • Prioritising digital resources over printed materials to reduce paper use and waste.
  • Reducing single-use plastics by using tap water in jugs, and reusable bottles.
  • Buying in bulk, choosing recycled or biodegradable products, and using rechargeable batteries where possible.
  • Buying local, seasonal, and unpackaged goods, and choosing fair-trade or environmentally responsible suppliers.
  • Recycling waste wherever cost-effective.
  • Choosing energy-efficient equipment and environmentally friendly products.
  • Using available schemes and tools (e.g. recycling grants and water-saving guidance).

Emissions and Transport

  • Ensuring that staff make use of public transport.
  • Encouraging shared transport use by staff.
  • Source goods and services locally, where this is cost-effective.
  • Coordinate meeting timings and locations and, where possible, make use of online meetings to minimise travel.

Energy Use & Water Use

  • Turning off lights, monitors, and equipment when not in use.
  • Using energy-efficient options (e.g. LED lighting).
  • Draught-proofing doors and windows to maximise insulation.
  • Encouraging staff to use jugs of water to gain access to colder water (in hot weather)
  • Turning off or repairing dripping taps.
