At MindTHNR, we place peer leadership and co-production at the core of our service.
People who’ve lived with mental health conditions are often best placed to help others in the same situation. They offer empathy and understanding to those who feel alone, stigmatised or misunderstood. They also understand what makes a service helpful – or harmful – so their input into service design and delivery is vital.
By supporting others, people with lived experience discover what they’re capable of, developing confidence and self-esteem as they continue their own recovery journey.
Peer leadership training
We offer a 6-day training programme to people interested in becoming peer leaders. It covers topics like maintaining boundaries, self-care and conflict resolution, as well as key mental health conditions.

Peer-led groups and activities
Most of our wellbeing groups and activities are peer-led. After completing their training, peer leaders are supported to create their own group. Each group is designed and delivered by the peer leader, with support from staff and other peer leaders as needed.
Co-production committee
Peer leaders and other service users make up our co-production committee, which makes key decisions on how the service is run – for example, what groups and activities to fund and how our Activate Café sessions should work. The committee gathers feedback from the MindTHNR community to help shape our activities and our culture.
Ongoing support and training
All our peer leaders have regular check-ins to ensure their own wellbeing and help them develop their groups further. They have access to our online training, as well as external training and development opportunities. In time, some join the team as staff members or move on to employment in the community.
